Childrens Christmas Party
2009
Friday 11th December 4-6 pm
The Poynings children’s Christmas party is upon us again. A huge THANK YOU to everybody who contributed to the
organisation and running last time. Big thanks to those who entered the Annual Chilli Competition in June. The
latter was a huge success and helps to fund this annual get together for the Children of Poynings, Saddlescombe and
Newtimber. This year, as so many before, the party will be very kindly hosted by the Royal Oak.
Due to the expanding young population of the village, this year will be strictly by invitation only.
If you have children under the age of 10 and have recently moved into either Poynings, Newtimber or Saddlescombe,
just call me to make sure you get your invite! Invites should have been delivered by Santa’s little helpers in
November.
The bar will of course be open for you to get a glass of whatever you may need! Hot food is on the menu along with
local entertainment by Sheila with Dandelion Puppets and of course Father Christmas himself! Laura 857952.
Childrens Christmas Party 2008
A HUGE Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this years Children’s Party at
the Royal Oak. Paul and Lewis, Alex and the team, Tara, Tania, Jackie and all the helpers, Sheila for the
entertainment and Father Christmas and his Fairy, wherever they may be! Great fun was had by all the children who
attended from Poynings, Newtimber and Saddlescombe. For the many of you who respected the ‘strictly by invitation
only’ Thank you! – some unfortunately couldn’t, but there’s always one!
There has been interest in a Christmas 2009 ‘get together’ for the older children ( 10-16 years), who miss out
on the Christmas Party and rarely get together, anyone who has children who might be interested in Poynings,
Newtimber and Saddlescombe please call Laura 857952 - to get an idea of numbers, and we will get everyone together
to find out what they would like to do! Any fundraising ideas welcome too!
Childrens Christmas Party 2007

The children’s Christmas party will be held on the 14th of December this year
and promises to be lots of fun with food, an entertainer and a special visit from
Santa!
Invites will be given out nearer the time and I very much look forward to seeing everyone from Poynings,
Saddlescombe and Newtimber.
Don’t forget that the pumpkin is now at the Royal Oak pub waiting to have its weight guessed.
All proceeds go the children’s party and the lucky winner will receive a bottle of Champagne.
Good Luck!
Love Su x
Mike Airey guessed the nearest to the correct weight (156.9lb).
He won a meal for 2 and a bottle of wine at the Royal Oak, helping to raise £150-00 for the Poynings Childrens'
Christmas Party.
The pumpkin had lost 4lb since it was weighed in Henfield the week before it arrived in the Oak and so it
must've originally weighed just over 12 stone when it was originally cut.
So well done Paul and Mike!
Last year Huge numbers of children and parents enjoyed Potty the Pirate, party tea and a visit
from Father Christmas with his fairy helper.
Well done organiser Su! Many thanks to hosts the Royal Oak who gave the tea and donated a meal
for two for the winner of the fund raising ‘guess the weight of the pumpkin’ competition. Victoria guessed
correctly, winning the meal and a bottle of champagne!
Well done Victoria Anderson who correctly guessed 591/2 pounds winning champaine
and meal for 2 at the Pub.
Mark Lee guessed 60 pounds...
Horse dentist Carl won "guess the number of sweets in the jar" in aid of kids' xmas party,
winning the sweets.
