Annual Stoolball Match 2009

Our annual match at Pyecombe in July was rained off. Adrian is quite willing to have a few practice matches if anyone is interested in joining us. Betty 857215

Annual Stoolball Match 2008

I think the less I say about our last match at Pyecombe in July the better.

We had the game in the bag, five runs needed, plenty of overs left and fours more players to bat. Matthew the star player on the day got over confident and was run out, it was all down hill after that and Pyecombe went on to win the match.

As you can guess, I will be looking to win next year, see the next Newsletter for practisenights.

Annual Stoolball Match 2007

We had a nail biter this year at Pyecombe for our annual match.

I was feeling quietly comfortable although we had quite a young team

Adrian(Rushfields) was able to play this year, thank goodness his back problem was a lot better.

Pyecombe went into bat and then there was no holding them, they notched up 193 in fifteen overs.

Our wickets fell quickly, things were looking bleak Adrian tried to rally the teams spirit by saying that the game is not lost until the game is over. Yeah, yeah was our thought. Then Jake Souch came in to bat and things got a little steadier, the next wicket fell and Jake was joined by Tim Hawkins (ex. Pyecombe). Jake's wicket went and Adrian went in to join Tim. From then on it was sheer joy, sixes and four's were scored with ease, Tim got a score of 121 and Adrian 35 when we reached Pyecombe's total.

Sad to say Tim will be leaving Poynings in the very near future but who knows we may be able to recruit him for the 2008 challenge.

If there is any body out there wanting a really exciting afternoon's stoolball, please get in touch with me.

Betty Powell.
